Which system do you need?
- Whole-house filter
- Carbon filtration for every tap in the house. It reduces the chlorine taste and smell in city water.
- Water softener
- Removes the hardness minerals that leave white scale on faucets, shower glass and inside water heaters. It uses salt, stored in a brine tank next to the system.
- Salt-free system
- Changes how hardness minerals behave so they're less likely to form scale. No salt and no brine tank to refill.
- UV purifier
- Ultraviolet light treats the water for bacteria and viruses, as an extra layer of protection after filtration.
- Reverse osmosis
- An under-sink system for drinking and cooking water that removes most dissolved solids, so you can stop buying bottled water.
Signs of hard water
- White crust on faucets and shower heads
- Spots on dishes and shower glass
- Soap and shampoo that don't lather well
- Water heaters that build up scale and need flushing more often
What an install includes
- A sediment pre-filter to catch sand and grit before it reaches the tanks
- The filter and softener tanks, plumbed into your main water line with shut-off valves
- A drain connection for systems that flush themselves
- Setup and a walkthrough of the maintenance
Protect your tankless water heater
Scale builds up quickly inside tankless water heaters. Softened or conditioned water helps keep the heat exchanger clean. See water heaters.

Questions
Do I need a softener or a filter?
They do different jobs. A filter improves taste and smell by removing chlorine. A softener removes the minerals that cause scale. Many homes install both, like the systems in the photos on this page.
Where does the system go?
Where the main water line enters the house, usually in the garage or on an outside wall. A softener also needs a drain and a power outlet nearby.
What maintenance do these systems need?
Sediment pre-filters are changed periodically, softeners need salt added to the brine tank, and UV lamps are replaced about once a year. We'll show you what your system needs.
